Proposed 33-room expansion of Landers hotel seeks zoning change for 10 acre lot
Editor’s note: Both the County’s Land Use Services and Board of Supervisor’s agenda list the Landers property as the “Lonely Dove,” while subsequent searches for the currently operating hotel only has results for the “Lonesome Dove.” We’ve reached out to San Bernardino County for clarification.
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors meets in regular session on Tuesday (September 1).
The Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on a conditional use permit for a 42 unit hotel in Landers. The project is called the Lonely Dove Hotel, and it is proposed for a site at 1473 Wamego Trail in Landers, one block east of Old Woman Springs Road. The project is an expansion of an existing structure with eight rooms, and the developers have proposed an additional 33 rooms, two restaurants, a pool, and a day spa at the 10 acre site. A portion of the property is already designated Special Development-Commercial. The applicant, Rod Rigole, is asking the County to approve a conditional use permit that would extend the commercial zoning to the rest of the site. The Board is expected to approve the zoning change, but will consider feedback from the community.
A property mix-up is set to be corrected by the Board. A .86 acre property on Joshua Lane behind the Yucca Valley Branch Library was designated as the new location for the fire station. The land was purchased and escrow was closed on August 15.The County Says that the property was “inadvertently” signed over the San Bernardino County rather than the San Bernardino County Fire Department. The Board is expected to approve a “corrective” grant deed, giving the property to County Fire, who has covered the administrative costs of the change in ownership.
The lease agreement for County Women, Infants and Children Program office in Twentynine Palms is expected to be renewed. The clinic and office space at 6527 Desert Queen Avenue provides health and food services to families in the area. The Board is expected to renew the lease for three years with an annual amount of between $31,000 and $34,000 per year. The property is owned by John R. Hosman, LLC.
The Board is expected to authorize a donation from the Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency (JTHAR) to the San Bernardino County Museum. As part of their artists residency program, the non-profit Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency is donating 149 works of art to the County Museum. Founded in 2007, JTHAR invites artists from around the world to create work inspired by the beauty of Joshua Tree National Park and connect to the vibrant local artistic community, with some of those works to be donated to the County.
The 149 donated pieces have been valued at $271,450. Any donation or gift made to the County that is valued at more than $10,000 must be approved by the Board of Supervisors.
