
Yucca Valley man arrested for suspected ongoing sexual abuse of a minor
A Yucca Valley man was arrested on suspicion of the ongoing sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 14.
After what the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department described as an “extensive investigation” deputies arrested Freeland Johnson, 44, on Wednesday (April 29) at around 8:15 p.m. at the Papa Johns in Yucca Valley. Deputy E. Hernandez of the Sheriff’s Morongo Basin Station identified Johnson as the suspect in the sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14. His investigation alleges that Johnson was known to the victim, that the abuse began when the victim was 12 years-old and occurred in several homes in Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, and Twentynine Palms.
Court records indicate charges related to incidents June 2020, August 2021, August 2022, October 2022, December 2022, and February 2024.
Freeland Johnson was arrested on charges related to the rape of a child by force or fear, lewd acts with a minor, and the ongoing sexual abuse of a minor. Johnson is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $300,000 bail.
Child and Family Services also responded and conducted an independent investigation into the circumstances.
