Twentynine Palms City Council candidate applies for legal name change

Twentynine Palms City Council candidate Carlos Blandon has filed paperwork to legally change his name less than a month before the election.

Blandon is currently a candidate running to represent District 4 on the Twentynine Palms City Council.

Blandon shared with Z107.7 court documents filed on September 22 requesting a name change to “Zagreus Enoch.” A hearing on the name change will be held on November 20, 17 days after the November 3 election. The candidate will still appear as “Carlos Blandon” on ballots.

When asked about the name change and its impact on his candidacy, Blandon said, “a name change should not affect anything. As I will still keep my slave number Social Security. Tell me, why would you want to keep a slave name that’s cursed? My name has been publicly altered to the point that no one knows the truth anymore.”

Blandon was arrested on September 18 at his home on Pine Avenue in Twentynine Palms on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The Sheriff’s Department says that their investigation into the matter is ongoing. The DA has not pressed charges.
