Twentynine Palms Airport gets infrastructure updates through federal grants

On last Friday’s (July 10) episode of the Z107.7 Up Close Show, host Gary Daigneault spoke with local Third District representative and Chair of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Dawn Rowe. Daigneault asked about recent updates to the Twentynine Palms Airport.

Gary Daigneault said, “The Twentynine Palms Airport is not part of the city. It is in the unincorporated area, so it is a county airport.”

Rowe confirmed, saying that it is overseen by the County of San Bernardino. “We have an airport commission. Much like a planning commission. They bring their needs to the Airport Commission. But they’re underfunded. And so, how do we get money? We can apply for federal grants.

“We just did a whole bunch of improvements at the Twentynine Palms Airport. Jim Bagley, in particular, brought to our attention that the security cameras were not reliable. They weren’t working. The cracks and seals out there had grown to a point where they were dangerous. So, that’s all been fixed.”

“We even put Wi-Fi in the pilot’s lounge. And the lights as you approach the runway, they’re called tetrahedron lights, those weren’t working on approach. So, all of those have been replaced. There was a little bit of a sewer issue in the pilot’s lounge. All of that’s been remediated.”
