Shooting in Yucca Valley sends one to the hospital; Sheriff still investigating

One person was hospitalized after a shooting in Yucca Valley on Sunday night (December 21).

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said that deputies responded to the 57000 block of Chipmunk Trail for reports of a shooting. The Department says that a victim was found with a gunshot wound, and taken to a hospital with unknown injuries. 

No arrests have yet been reported and the Sheriff’s investigation is ongoing. 

The Sheriff’s Department says that their investigation is ongoing and they will provide updates as they become available.

The victim has been identified via social media as Michael Ramos, a recent graduate of Yucca Valley High School.

Another arrest occurred several hours after the shooting in the same area. 

Additional arrest unrelated

At around 1:00 a.m. early Monday morning (December 22) in the 57000 block of Turner Road in Yucca Valley, less than a quarter mile from the location of the shooting, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies witnessed two men fighting. Deputies say they separated the pair, and arrested one of the men, identified as Hector Aviles, a 26 year-old resident of Yucca Valley. Deputies say this incident was unrelated to the shooting.

Hector Aviles was arrested on suspicion of battery and booked into the Morongo Basin jail. He has since been released.
