UPDATED: Rollover on Old Woman Springs Road sends two to hospital

UPDATED at 10 a.m.:

A collision on Old Woman Springs road in Landers sent two people to the hospital for major injuries.

On Thursday (July 18) at approximately 11:15 a.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a roll over traffic collision on Old Woman Springs Road south of Linn Road. Initial information provided by the CHP indicates that the collision involved two vehicles and left the south lane blocked for about thirty minutes.

The CHP said that John Dellavecchia, a 61 year-old resident of Landers, was driving a Jeep Wrangler southbound on Old Woman Springs Road. They said that John Linga, a 29 year-old resident of Lucern Valley was driving a Saturn Ion southbound and attemtped to overtake the Jeep from behind. They say the front of the Saturn struck the rear of the Jeep causing it to lose control and roll over, then the Jeep struck the dirt berm and came to rest on its side blocking the southbound lane. The Saturn came to rest on its wheels and sustained major front end damage.

The CHP said that both occupants of the vehicle were taken to the hospital for treatment. At least one person was taken to the Yucca Valley Airport to be flown for treatment for reported head and internal injuries. Initial reports indicate that a dog may have been killed in the collision.

The CHP says that the exact cause of the collision remains under investigation.
