Attempted Murder and Arson charges for Landers man who allegedly set own home on fire

A Landers man was arrested for investigation into attempted murder and arson after allegedly setting his own house on fire.

On Wednesday (July 16) at 4:45 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call for a fire in the 300 block of Bowman Trail in Landers. Deputies were told that the suspect, Randall Fechtig, 60, had set his own house on fire and that he was threatening people with a firearm. Deputies say they arrived to find the home on fire and heard possible gunshots inside the residence.

Deputies say that Fechtig eventually came out of the home unarmed, and was taken into custody. Deputies said they did not find a firearm at the scene. He was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment of burns.

Randall Fechtig was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $80,000 bail.
