Hi Desert Nature Museum puts out call for art, announces 2024 exhibits

Yucca Valley’s Hi Desert Nature Museum is putting out the call for artists who enjoy making art out of recycled or repurposed materials. Their annual spring recycled art exhibit “Metamorphosis: A Recycled Art Exhibition” will open March 23, and the museum is searching for local artists to contribute works of art for display.

Artists of all ages are encouraged to create and submit artwork, there is no cost to participate and each artist can submit up to two pieces.

Awards will be given for ‘Visitors’ Choice’, for both adults (14+ years) and youths (5-13 years).  Awards will be announced at the Opening Reception on Saturday, March 30, 5-7 p.m.

The museum’s Supervisor Celeste Hildebrand presented at last week’s Yucca Valley Town Council, giving a preview of some of the programming coming this year. Their spotlight on Geology exhibit continues through Sept. 30th with a Mineral-themed Paint night coming in August.

After their Metamorphosis show wraps in May, the museum will have an interactive exhibit titled “From Here to There” that explores the world of movement on land, sea and air. There will be 20 hand-on exhibits with pulleys, levers, hydraulics and interactive stations that help kids understand the science of how we get from here to there. That starts in May.

The museum’s current exhibition features vehicles on he other side of their usefulness – it’s based on award-winning photographer, Ken Lee’s book, “Abandoned Planes Trains and Automobiles: California Revealed” and features dreamlike night photography and long exposures. That exhibition runs through March 16th.

You can visit the Hi-Desert Nature Museum Wednesday through Saturday from 10 to 5. Find more information on their website – the cost is free.
