Basin Transit gathers school supplies for hundreds of Morongo Basin students

At their “Pack the Bus” event, Basin Transit collected a huge amount of school supplies to be distributed to Morongo Basin families in need.

The Pack the Bus event was held on July 11 at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Yucca Valley. Community members filled a Basin Transit bus with donated school supplies.

Basin Transit says that they collected 500 boxes of crayons, 500 spiral notebooks, and other supplies such as pencils, sharpers, erasers, pens, scissors, glue, three-ring notebooks, and lots of other school-required supplies that were too many to count. A total of  77 backpacks were donated at Saturday’s event and another 48 backpacks were purchased from cash donations, for a total of 125 backpacks from the event.

The school supplies will be distributed to local youngsters at an event on July 28 at the Boys and Girls Club of the Hi-Desert. Z107.7 will share details as soon as they are announced.
