California Grants Portal lists funding opportunities for nonprofits, individuals and businesses

The California Grants Portal is a “one-stop shop” for state grants that are offered on a competitive or first-come basis. The website has been around since July of 2020 as part of the Grant Information Act of 2018 which required the California State Library to create the system. Grants are a general term for money an organization or individual isn’t expected to pay back. Currently the Grants Portal allows you to search for grants in categories like environment & water, disadvantaged communities, education, agriculture, economic development, and employment labor and training.

There are currently 179 grants listed on the website totaling over $16.5 billion dollars of available funding. Individuals, non-profits, public agencies and tribal governments and businesses can all apply for the grants depending on the requirements. The grants listed are statewide, and each grant listed gives details on how to apply and the requirements listed by the state agencies that created the listing.

Because of the nature of grants and their availability, new opportunities are added weekly to the website, and you can also choose to have new grant opportunities emailed to you as well.
