Yucca Valley Planning Commission agenda: how small can a single family residence be built?
The Planning Commission is expected to retain the Single Family Resident unit size standard of 725 square feet. The commission discussed this at a meeting last March, where they addressed comparisons in 26 other California cities, where trends in new homes exceed 1000 feet but vary widely from jurisdiction, zoning district, neighborhood, and bedroom count, while some cities rely solely on the California Building Code Minimums. Additional dwelling units and tiny homes on wheels would remain exempt from this 725 square foot standard.
The Board will consider approving a three-year extension for the construction of a storage facility on Old Woman Springs between Sun Oro and Paseo Los Ninos Road. The facility would include 175 storage units, 16 enclosed RV storage units, 55 open RV storage spaces, and a 1000 square foot office. The project was originally approved back in 2008, and has been extended for five three-year periods, making this extension its sixth request. The 4.4-acre property has a zoning designation of Industrial and a General Plan land use of Rural Mixed Use Specific Plan.
The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Yucca Room at the Yucca Valley Community Center, open to the public.
