Veteran’s Day activities around the hi-desert

Veterans Day is Tuesday, November 11. And as a community with a large active and former military presence, the hi-desert is ready to honor our Veterans with a number of events.

Yucca Valley Veterans Breakfast

The Yucca Valley Senior Center invites all local veterans and their guests to a special Veterans Appreciation Breakfast on Tuesday. This gathering celebrates the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces, as well as those who continue to serve today.

The Veterans Breakfast is free to our community veterans and one guest and will take place at the Yucca Valley Senior Center at its temporary location at 57090 29 Palms Highway, in the old library building just behind Town Hall. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Twentynine Palms Veterans Day Celebration

The City of Twentynine Palms is holding their annual Veterans Day Celebration on Tuesday (November 11) at Freedom Plaza. The Veterans Day Celebration will feature a ceremony and Presentation of Colors, followed by live music from The Silverados, food vendors, and access to veteran-focused organizations, through the Veterans Resource Fair. Veterans, active-duty service members, military families, and community members are encouraged to attend for a day of recognition and connection.

To honor and thank those who have served, the first 100 veterans who visit the City of Twentynine Palms booth during the event will receive a free meal ticket redeemable at participating food vendors onsite. This initiative is designed to show gratitude for the sacrifices made by veterans and to create a welcoming and inclusive experience during the celebration. They request proof of veteran status.

The Veterans Day Celebration is from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Freedom Plaza in Twentynine Palms.

Benefits and Closures

Third District County Supervisor Dawn Rowe announced that San Bernardino County Veterans Affairs assisted local veterans in accessing more than $88 million in new federal benefits, the highest amount of any county in California. For more information about veterans’ services and benefits, visit va.sbcounty.gov or call 1-866-472-8387.

Government buildings across San Bernardino County are once again shining green as part of Operation Green Light, a nationwide effort to honor and support the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces. Through Veterans Day, select county offices will participate, including the Third District office in Joshua Tree. Residents, businesses, and community organizations are invited to join in this expression of gratitude by simply changing one light to green.

The U.S. Postal Service will observe Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11. All Post Office locations will be closed in recognition of the federal holiday. Only Priority Mail Express will be delivered that day, and regular mail delivery and retail services will resume on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
