Two arrested in Twentynine Palms during “juvenile welfare check”
Two women were arrested for investigation into resisting a deputy during a juvenile welfare check.
On Sunday morning (August 2) at approximately 12:50 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a welfare check involving a juvenile at a residence in the 73500 block of Sun Valley Drive in Twentynine Palms. Deputies say that the mother of the juvenile, Shawntae Barnes, 50, became uncooperative and attempted to interrupt while deputies were attempting to interview the juvenile. Sheriff’s deputies report that the officer attempted to detain Barnes, who resisted arrest. Deputies say that during this time, Keyairra Brown, 35, began hitting a deputy from behind. Law enforcement asserts that Brown initially resisted before being arrested. Deputies say that Barnes was first transported to the Hi-Desert Medical Center for a medical issue, after which she was taken into custody. Brown was taken into custody without further incident.
Keyairra Brown was arrested for investigation into obstructing or resisting an executive officer using threats, force, or violence, and has since been released on bail. Shawntae Barnes was arrested for an investigation into obstructing a peace officer and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $10,000 bail.
