County seeks dog foster volunteers ahead of September 12 flight
San Bernardino County Animal Care is seeking temporary foster volunteers for dogs preparing to take flight toward their new homes. The county has partnered with Wings of Rescue to transport dogs from its Devore and Big Bear shelters to other shelters where they are more likely to be adopted. The flight is scheduled for September 12, and the dogs selected for air travel require foster care to ensure they are healthy and comfortable for transport. Essential care items, such as food and a crate, are provided to foster volunteers by the county at no cost.
Wings of Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and national animal rescue foundation based in San Diego. Founded in 2012, the organization travels across the country to rehome animals from disaster areas or overcrowded shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia, as in the case of San Bernardino County. Animals are transported via fully pressurized aircraft to shelters with adequate kennel space and a demand for potential adopters. Dogs from San Bernardino County have been included on past Wings of Rescue transport flights in January, February, and April of this year.
Potential foster volunteers must be 18 years or older, reside in San Bernardino County, and have reliable transportation and housing, in addition to attending an online or in-person orientation.
