Twentynine Palms City Council reorganizes with new Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem

At last night’s Twentynine Palms City Council Meeting, the council was reorganized with Daniel Mintz declared Mayor and councilmember Octavious Scott approved as Mayor Pro Tem.

Outgoing Mayor Steven Bilderain spoke to the challenges that the position can face in the two-year term:

“The last 24 months have been challenging but also a feeling of growth both on personal and professional levels, serving as the Mayor. The position of the Mayor is not ceremonial and it’s not just a power position. It’s a responsibility. It’s a responsibility to the citizens and the Community and the City space. So this position I take very seriously and I hope that these last twenty four months I was able to lead by example and show my true character.

“I know a lot of us agree on things, a lot of us don’t agree on things… a lot of us agree to disagree on things, but I hope the whole time you felt respected and heard. That was my goal when I started this many years ago and every time I’ve been the Mayor I’ve thought the second time would be easy and it wasn’t. So when I went back to back I thought I already know what I’m doing, but once that calendar changes… Twentynine Palms changes. The issues change. So you’ve got to stay on your toes. I know the upcoming new Mayor, he’s done this. He could probably do it in his sleep, but he knows as well as I do, it’s different every time,” the outgoing Mayor said.

New Mayor Pro-Tem Octavious Scott also thanked Bilderain: “I just want to say I appreciate your service as the mayor of the over the past two years as well and your leadership was was very needed. Thank you.”
