“There’s an App for That” class focuses on citizen science and natural exploration this Saturday (11/1)

Whether you’re on a trail, at a campsite, or in your own backyard, the desert can be mysterious. A class on Saturday (November 1) will help hi-desert locals identify plants, animals, and animal leave-behinds. The class is called  “There’s an App for That.” It will focus on using technology to identify nature when you are out on the trail, and how this can contribute to citizen science.

Colin Barrows

Naturalist and Desert Advocate Colin Barrows is very active on the app iNaturalist which is an app/website where people can upload photos of plants and animals (or traces of animals like tracks or scat) and iNaturalist will suggest an identification or the user can put in what they believe the ID is. If anyone in the area has used iNaturalist, there is a very high likelihood that Colin has reviewed at least one of their IDs!

The class is Saturday, November 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Covington Park in Morongo Valley. The cost is $25.

You can get more information and sign-up at the Town of Yucca Valley’s website.
