Updated: Explosion and house fire kills one, injures two in Twentynine Palms
A house fire killed one person and injured two others in Twentynine Palms.
On Friday (August 21) at around 8:20 p.m, San Bernardino County Fire and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a fire in the 6400 block of Octolillo Avenue near Twentynine Palms Highway in Twentynine Palms.
County Fire said that the incident was initially called in as an explosion. Social media shared reports of an explosion at a home.
County Fire said that the fire burned in the single-family, single-story home. They said that the fire burned for about thirty minutes before they were able to put it out. County Fire received assistance from the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center and the Sheriff’s Department.
County Fire says that one person was killed in the fire. Coroner information indicates that they were pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased has only been identified as a 46 year-old woman.
Two adult men were injured in the fire, aged 41 and 72. One person suffered significant burn injuries, and was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. County Fire said the second person had moderate injuries and was taken via ambulance to a local hospital.
County Fire said that at least two of the people in the fire were residents of the home.
No cause of the fire has yet been determined. A joint investigation between County Fire and the Sheriff’s Bomb and Arson Division is ongoing.
