Second earthquake shakes Morongo Basin early Wednesday morning (1/21)

Another earthquake originating north of Indio was felt by hi-desert residents early this morning. At around 12:30 a.m. a magnitude 4.3 earthquake occurred approximately 20 miles north-northeast of Indio in the Indio hills near the southern border of Joshua Tree National Park. The shaker occurred just over four kilometers under the earth’s crust.

There were reports on social media of residents in Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, Twentynine Palms and Landers feeling the brief shake. This is the second earthquake over magnitude 4.0 since the 4.9 earthquake that shook the same area on Monday evening.
