Open auditions for Dance Mojave’s “The Desert Nutcracker” are this Saturday (8/15)

Auditions for the Desert Nutcracker will be held this Saturday, August 15th in the Cholla Room at the Yucca Valley Community Center.

Dancers don’t need to prepare any material in advance, and choreographers will lead dancers through a brief movement section. The audition will be held at the Yucca Valley Community Center, with age groups auditioning separately beginning at 1 p.m. There is no fee to audition or participate. Dancers should wear comfortable clothing that is safe to move around in. Ballet or jazz shoes are not required, but may be helpful.

  • Ages 4-6: 1:00 PM – 1:30 PM
  • Ages 7-11: 1:45 PM – 2:30 PM
  • Ages 12-Adults: 2:45 – 3:30 PM

The Desert Nutcracker is an adapted reimagining of the holiday classic and is presented in December for the last three years. The production features choreography from Lara Bennett, Karen Gladis, Andee Goldman, Jenn Henry, Kali Poulin, and Rebecca Plevin, along with youth choreographers in residence Kyra Collins and Mila Rose.

In previous years, dances included pieces set to the traditional Nutcracker Suite including coyote, tarantula, quail, and jackrabbit variations, a sandstorm set to the “Waltz of the Snowflakes,” and a traffic battle on the 10 freeway in lieu of the original battle scene. More than 60 roles are available to dancers of all ages.
