New Exhibition “Nature’s Blueprints: Biomimicry in Art and Design” Opens November 22

The Hi-Desert Nature Museum debuts a new exhibit about biomimicry.

Biomimicry is when forms, patterns and processes found in the natural world inspire humans’ design of everything from raincoats to skyscrapers. This approach to innovation is becoming increasingly popular, and the Hi-Desert Nature Museum is celebrating biomimicry with a new exhibit. “Nature’s Blueprints: Biomimicry in Art and Design, opening Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Hi- Desert Nature Museum, brings together art and design with environmental science using artifacts, artworks and photography, as well as interactive learning stations.

Things like nird wings, spiderwebs, and Rainbow Trout have inspired design improvements that enable faster travel, safer bridges and more effective wind turbines. The Hi-Deset Nature Museum’s exhibition aims to encourage discourse among audiences of all backgrounds as our understanding of the natural world can lead to some extraordinary creations that improve lives and reduce our impact on the environment.

Nature’s Blueprints: Biomimicry in Art and Design opens today and runs through March 7, 2026. The museum is open today from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information and full hours, visit hidesertnaturemuseum.com
