“Literacy is Life” reading and literacy program begins this Saturday (2/28)

To promote reading and literacy, the Morongo Unified School District is kicking off their “Literacy is Life” campaign with a free, public event on Saturday (February 28).
On last week’s Z107.7 Up Close Show, MUSD Literary Coaches Katie Fleischman and Melissa Stacey discussed the importance of reading with host Gary Daigneault. Fleischman described Saturday’s event, describing it as “a free community resource event designed for families, students, and community partners.”
“We’re focused on reading, writing, student voice, community partnerships, and access to books. We actually have two children’s authors, award-winning children’s authors Josh Oaktree and Candace Fleming coming as our keynote speakers. We are going to have so many free books, activities and games. We’re also going to have our wonderful nutritional services department providing a free lunch.”
The Literacy is Life event is happening on Saturday at Joshua Tree Elementary School. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and features keynote speakers Josh Oaktree and Candace Fleming.
