Fastball playing a show tonight (10/27) at Pappy and Harriets

Miles Zuniga is the guitarist and a founding member of Fastball, the alternative-rock band formed in Austin, Texas, in 1994. The band’s songs “The Way” and “Out of My Mind” were Top 40 hits that we continue to play regularly at Z107.7 FM. Fastball has been on a cross-country tour this fall, playing shows across the East Coast and the Southwest, and is playing a live show tonight at the iconic Pappy and Harriet’s. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Zuniga on-air at Z107.7 FM yesterday afternoon, where we talked about the tour, the band’s longevity, and the power of nostalgia.

“As an artist, why do you think that nostalgia is such a powerful force, especially as it relates to music?”

“People like comfort, and nostalgia is the past. They can feel comfort in the past because the past isn’t moving, but it’s kind of an illusion. The past is just a memory, but the nice thing about recording is that it can evoke such emotion in you. It could be from so long ago… the music itself, if it’s recorded and you hear it, it’s alive in that moment. That is such a powerful thing.

“I think if you want to stay vibrant, as an artist, you should try to find things that interest you and just do them. It doesn’t matter. It’s people that make these cynical calculations; you can paint yourself into a real psychological corner, and there’s no need to go there. We’re blessed to have those songs, but we like making new music and creating. It’s fun for its own sake.”

Fastball is playing a live show tonight at Pappy and Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the band taking the stage at 9:00 p.m.
