“Extensive investigation” into sexual abuse of a minor leads to arrest of Twentynine Palms man

A Twentynine Palms man was arrested for investigation into the ongoing sexual abuse of a minor. 

On May 21 at around 12:30 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy E. Hernandez served a warrant at a home in the 73000 block of Desert Trail Drive in Twentynine Palms. The Sheriff’s Department says that the warrant was the culmination of an extensive investigation.

Deputies identified the suspect as Steven Johnson, 30. They say the abuse began when the victim was 16 years-old and occurred over a two-year period at multiple locations throughout Twentynine Palms. Johnson was taken into custody without incident. 

Steven Johnson was arrested on suspicion of charges related to the sexual abuse and rape of a minor. He was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and has since been released on bail.
