Desert Christ Park, known for its Biblical sculptures, has faced major disrepair, but restoration efforts continue with some success. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…
For 67 years, Yucca Valley’s Desert Christ Park has retold Biblical stories through the sculptures of Frank Antone Martin. Over time, harsh weather, vandalism and low funding have seen these sculptures crumble and the site degrade.
But the tireless fundraising and repair efforts by the Desert Christ Park Foundation has resulted in the full restoration of 12 sculptures, all from the “Blessing of the Children” display. The foundation also planted new trees, repainted the kiosk, installed parking area poles, displayed scripture quotes, installed a new picnic area roof and manicured pathways.
More work needs to be done to reach the foundation’s $100,000 goal and it’s asking for donations of funds and/or time to help keep Desert Christ Park in shape. For more information, visit the website at desertchristpark.org.
