Copper Mountain College Volleyball returned to the court for the first time in years on Saturday (August 29), hosting Imperial Valley College in the Fighting Cacti’s highly anticipated home opener.
Despite ultimately falling to the Desert Warriors in three sets, 25-14, 25-23, 25-12, the Cacti showed plenty of fight, energy, and determination throughout the match.
While the scoreboard did not go the Cacti’s way, Head Coach Jerry Martinez was upbeat and excited about what he saw from his team in their first home match.
“I’m really proud of the effort and fight our group showed today,” Martinez said. “There were a lot of positives to take away from this match, especially considering this was our first home game in over a year. We are going to learn from this and continue to get better.”
“Kristen Hickey and Heaven Fenstermaker stepped up big today as they needed to fill in for our starting setter Nevaeh Apachito, who is out with an injury, and they played well,” Martinez said.
The Fighting Cacti will hit the road for their next competition on Friday, September 4, when they travel to Lemoore College to compete in the West Hills/Lemoore College Tournament.
CMC will then return home for its next home match on Thursday, September 10, when the Cacti welcome Southwestern College to the Bell Center.
