Celebration of Life for photographer Ellie Tyler this Sunday (11/2)

There will be a celebration of life for Joshua Tree photographer Ellie Tyler this Sunday, November 2nd from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Hi-Desert Artists Art Center.

Ellie and her husband, Craig, made Joshua Tree their home in 1994. She lived there until her passing in 2016 at the age of 67. Ellie was a longtime teacher in Joshua Tree and spent her school breaks traveling and camping across the western United States with Craig, all while honing her passion for landscape photography.

Ellie remained devoted to film even after the switchover to digital. She valued its sharpness, clarity, and the richness of color it produced—qualities she believed digital technology couldn’t fully replicate.

Following Craig’s death in December 2024, his estate donated Ellie’s remaining photographs to the Hi-Desert Artists Gallery and Shop. A selection of her work is currently on display and available for purchase in the Art Center’s Annex.

The celebration of life will include a potluck, and friends, neighbors, and admirers of Ellie’s work are invited to attend.

The Hi-Desert Artists Art Center is located at 55635 Twentynine Palms Highway in Yucca Valley right on the corner of Geronimo Trail.
