UPDATED: Fatal collision closes Twentynine Palms Highway

A fatal collision between a motorcycle and a pedestrian closed Twentynine Palms Highway in Twentynine Palms on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday (March 4) at around 3:47 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a collision on Twentynine Palms Highway near Mesquite Springs Road in Twentynine Palms. Deputies say the motorcyle rider was responsive and taken to a local hospital. They say the pedestrian was found unresponsive with severe injuries. First responders gave CPR, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

UPDATED March 5 11:15 a.m.:

In a press release issued on Thursday morning (March 5), the Sheriff’s department identified the deceased as Jimmy Reynolds, a 55 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms. The Sheriff’s Department said that he was walking in the eastbound lanes of Twentynine Palms Highway when he was struck by the motorcyle.

The rider of the motorcycle was identified as an adult male, who was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center.

The Sheriff’s Department says that the collision remains under investigation. They ask that anyone who witnessed the incident contact Deputy A. Camacho at the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station at 760-366-1400
