CALTRANS electronic message sign installed near entrance to Joshua Tree

An electronic, changeable message sign was installed on Twentynine Palms Highway on Tuesday (October 21). The sign was installed by The California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) and is one of the three being installed along Highway 62 this year.

Located on the eastbound side of the highway near the border of Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree, the large sign towers at least twenty feet in the air and is located approximately a quarter mile down the road from the “Welcome to Joshua Tree” sign.

As of Wednesday morning (October 22), the sign is not actively showing messages. It is expected to proved current information about traffic conditions, possibly including wait times at entrances to Joshua Tree National Park. 

Two additional signs are being installed on the eastbound side of Twentynine Palms Highway at the top of the Yucca grade and on the westbound side of the highway at the east end of Twentynine Palms.
