The Yucca Valley Lady Trojan basketball team couldn’t hang on to a slim halftime lead and fell to Riverside Poly High School 54-40 in a third-round game at the Redlands East Valley High School tournament last Thursday (December 2).
Sophomore Cadence Tarrant and junior Malia both scored 9 points to lead the team. Senior Maliah Rodriguez added 8 points while fellow senior Heather Hiday knocked in 7 points. Junior Ashley Lowe chipped in 4 points and junior Jaylie Schreiber knocked down 3 points.
The Lady Trojans finished off the tournament by defeating the host team 76-32 on Friday (December 3) night.
Junior Malia Ulery paced the team with 19 points, she was followed by senior Maliah Rodriguez who knocked down 6 three-point baskets on her way to 18 points. Sophomore Cadence Tarrant pumped in 18 points while pulling down 15 rebounds. Senior Heather Hiday had a solid game scoring 14 points and freshman Macy Yakutis came off the bench to add 7 points.
The win moved the team’s record to 5-3 on the season with their next game the Desert Valley League opener at Cathedral City High School next Wednesday (December 8) at 6 p.m.
