Updated: Yucca Valley woman pleads not-guilty on multiple charges after suspected DUI and collision on Old Woman Springs Road

Lucy Barajas was arraigned Friday morning on charges of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI, with enhancements for causing brain damage or paralysis and great bodily injury. She pled “not guilty” to four felony charges and denied all enhancements. She is currently being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $1,250,000 bail.
The alleged DUI driver involved in a collision that left one man dead and one man injured is facing murder charges.
The California Highway Patrol says that Lucy Barajas, a 41 year-old resident of Yucca Valley, was the driver involved in hitting two men and their trucks on Tuesday afternoon (August 12).
The CHP says that Detrick Kelley, 41 and William Adams, 26, both residents of Yucca Valley, were standing on the shoulder of the state highway when they and their trucks were struck by Barajas. Kelley was pronounced dead at the scene, and Adams was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center where he is being treated for critical injuries.
The CHP says that Barajas was intoxicated while driving. Barajas was initially arrested for investigation into vehicular manslaughter, but the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has increased the severity of the charges. Lucy Barajas is being arraigned on murder and gross vehicular manslaughter Friday morning (August 15) in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
Barajas is currently being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $1,250,000 bail.
