Yucca Valley Senior Center continues renovations in Phase 2 of modernization project

Town of Yucca Valley Recreation Supervisor Clayton Rardon was on the Up Close Show this past Friday (8/22) where he discussed all things Yucca Valley, including the ongoing renovations happening at the Yucca Valley Senior Center.

Clayton: “The Senior Center. As soon as you enter, there’s a lobby space, there’s a front desk, bathrooms on the right, offices back and to the left, and then you go into the large room that’s used as bingo, cafeteria, dances, all the fun stuff, right? Everything on the entrance side of the big room has been gutted down to the studs: all new bathrooms, we have modernized our Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) amenities, and office spaces on the other side. Everything’s been retrofitted and we have maximized the square footage for any kind of other programming that the Senior Center staff needs over there.

“It’s a really big deal, it’s been a long time coming, and we can’t wait to get back into that facility.

“The Senior Center staff are currently operating out of the old library, and they’ve really done a great job of making the most out of that space, and it is absolutely slammed. They’ve taken this temporary space and really made it their own. They’re busier than ever, with two or three staff members over there almost every day.

“We have staff there Monday through Thursday about 8.45am, 9:00 a.m. until about 2:00 p.m., and then on Fridays from around 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 or 12.30 p.m. Fridays are truncated because the Yucca Valley Senior Citizens Club operates BINGO and that’s 80 to 100 people there. They’re just slam packed every Friday.”

The Yucca Valley Senior Center is expected to last until November. You can listen to the full interview here:
