Yucca Valley pickleball courts painted, Town beautification and monument sign planning progresses

At the June 16th Yucca Valley Town Council meeting, Public Works Director Alex Qishta told the Town Council that the pickleball courts have been painted and they are hoping to have the project wrapped and ready for players by the end of July.

The Town has been busy with painting at the Community Center, and Qishta says when they painted the pickleball courts they did the basketball courts as well “so it is attractive to the community and hopefully with the lighting that is going to be there, it will be something that the residents would like to go out to” he told the Town Council.

He also said they are planning on restriping the new Community Center parking lot by the new pickleball courts lot today (Friday, 6/19).

The courts don’t have fences or nets yet, but those are coming says Qishta.

There was no word on a Yucca Valley Skatepark update, but we’ve reached out to Town Staff to see what’s up.

It’s been over two years since there have been any substantive updates to the skate park.

The Yucca Valley Skate Park still sees plenty of skaters, but a more modern design has been requested by locals.

Highway beautification and Monument Sign moves forward

Updates were also given on the Highway 62 beautification project, which would dress up road medians and traffic islands with native plants and water wise landscaping. Qishta says they are still in the planning stages but hope to have a notice inviting bids for the project within the next couple months.

“Desert Portal” by Corey Hamilton was decided as the design for the new town monument sign.

And the new town monument sign approved for Highway 62 and Camino Del Cielo has a landscape architect consultant which is working with the Town on an agreement. Once that agreement is signed off by the Town, the consultant and artist will work together to get it out for bids.
