Yucca Valley man arrested for investigation of torturing his three-month old daughter

After a three month old child was air lifted to Loma Linda Medical for life-threatening injuries, the child’s father was arrested for investigation into torture and child endangerment. On Wednesday (May 24), the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department investigated allegations into the physical abuse of a three-month old female victim in Yucca Valley.

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Departments Crimes Against Children Detail, Specialized Enforcement Division, and Department of Family Services determined that the victim was suffering from life-threatening injuries consistent with child abuse. The victim was airlifted to Loma Linda Univeristy Medical Center’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. 

Detectives identified the infant’s father, Drew Hellerud, a 31 year-old resident of Yucca Valley, as the suspect in the abuse. Drew Hellerud was arrested for investigation of Child Endangerment: Death or Paralysis, Aggravated Mayhem, Torture, and Child Endangerment, and was booked into the Central Detention Center on $1,000,000 bail.
