Yucca Valley launches Military Banner Recognition Program

The Town of Yucca Valley has announced the launch of its Military Banner Program, which recognizes members of United States Armed Forces who are connected to the Yucca Valley community.

The Town plans to hang customized military banners on light poles featuring the honoree’s name, official military photograph, and branch of service. This program is administered on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to active-duty service members. Each banner will hang for one year.

The Town is asking residents to nominate service men and women who could be recognized on these banners. Nominees must be an active-duty member of the United States Armed Forces, an honorably discharged veteran or a service member who has given their life in the most recent military conflict. They must also be a current resident of the Town of Yucca Valley or an immediate family member (spouse, parent, child, sibling, or grandchild) of a Yucca Valley resident.

The Town has reduced the sponsorship cost from the original estimate of $150 per banner to just $50, and they say the reduced rate is made possible through local Measure Y funding, ensuring the program remains affordable and accessible to residents and organizations. Each sponsorship includes the full design, production, installation, and public display of a banner for one year. The initial installation will feature 10 banners—two on each of the five light poles located in the Community Center parking lots—with additional placements to be considered as the program expands.

At the conclusion of the display period, the banner will be returned to the sponsor as a lasting keepsake and token of the community’s appreciation for the honoree’s service.

The deadline to apply is November 4.
