Yucca Valley Lady Trojans’ Basketball lose to Hacienda Heights by free throw

The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan varsity basketball team lost a close game to Los Altos High School of Hacienda Heights at the Northview High School Shootout in Covina Saturday afternoon (January 7). The final score was 56-55

The Lady Trojans and the Conquerors are both in the CIF 2A division with the Yucca girls unranked while Los Altos was ranked #15 in the latest CIF poll.

The game was tight from the opening tip to the finish with a halftime score of 26-26 and then the Lady Trojans took a 55-54 lead with 21 seconds before Los Altos sealed the victory with two made free throws with 2.9 seconds remaining.

Senior Malia Ulery was spectacular scoring a game high 24 points including 8 points in the fourth quarter despite being double teamed most of the game. Junior Cadence Tarrant was in early foul trouble but still posted 23 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Senior Jaylie Schreiber added 5 points while fellow senior Ashley Lowe netted 3 points.

The loss dropped the teams overall record to 14-5 on the season. They return to action tomorrow (January 10) with a Desert Valley League contest against Desert Hot Springs High School at home in Trojan Gym. The JV game begins at 4pm with varsity tipping off at 5:30pm.
