YUCCA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL TEMPORARILY LOCKED DOWN FOR FALSE REPORT OF STUDENT WITH A GUN

Update: 4:15 p.m.

Yucca Valley High School was locked down by Sheriff’s Deputies Wednesday (August 25) for a report that is believed to have been a prank call to law enforcement known as “swatting.” According to Sheriff’s reports, Deputies responded to Yucca Valley High School around 12:14 p.m. for a report that a student on campus had a firearm and that they were pointing it at other students. Deputies requested a lockdown of the school for the safety of students and staff. The involved parties named in the call were contacted at the location and cooperated with deputies during the investigation. After the campus was thoroughly searched and no weapon was found, Deputies determined the report was completely false. The lockdown was lifted at 12:30 p.m. At this time, Deputies believe the false report was a “swatting,” a prank call intended to deceive law enforcement into sending a large number of armed officers to another person’s location. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
