A vegetation fire in Yucca Valley sent one person to the hospital for heat-related injuries.
On Sunday morning (April 6) at around 11 a.m. San Bernardino County Fire received a call related to a possible Western Joshua Tree on fire in the area of Fox Trail and McDonald Dr in Yucca Valley. A representative with County Fire said a burn permit was issued to a resident in the area, and that the fire was initially considered “low response” with a single medical engine responding. As smoke began to increase, County Fire upgraded their response with three additional engines, plus one engine from Cal Fire.
County fire says that the vegetation fire expanded to 1.5 acres on land behind a residence on McDonald Dr, and responding crews made an excellent initial attack, keeping the fire to two acres.
One civilian was taken to a hospital for possible heat related injuries, and no other injuries were reported.
Crews stayed on the scene for several hours, mopping up hot spots. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
