Yucca Valley firefighters were unable to respond to the car fire because they had been called back to a house fire in Yucca Mesa. About 5:40 a.m. Monday, firefighters from Yucca Valley, Yucca Mesa, and Joshua Tree responded to a structure fire in the 56900 block of Campanula Street. Firefighters had the fire knocked down in about 30 minutes. Investigators were still at the home when about 10:20 a.m. a small hidden pocket of smoldering material inside the house re-ignited, and firefighters were called back to the scene to put out the blaze again.

Sheriff’s deputies found numerous handguns, a military-style rifle, a pepper spray gun with pepper spray canisters, brass knuckles, fake badges, and more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition at the home of Eddie Brandon in Yucca Mesa. Just before 1 p.m., deputies were called to the home, owned by Eddie Brandon, 49, a convicted felon. The deputies were familiar with the area, as they had been called to the neighborhood earlier for several calls of someone shooting guns. During the investigation, deputies found expended shell casings on Brandon’s property, numerous guns, more than 20,000 rounds of ammunition in various calibers, as well as body armor, brass knuckles, pepper spray, and a pepper spray gun. Eddie Brandon was arrested for investigation of being a felon in possession of a firearm, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $35,000.
