Victim identified in Morongo Valley murder and stabbing

The victim of a homicide in a Morongo Valley mobile home park has been identified.

The San Bernardino County Coroner identified the man found dead at the Roadrunner Mobile Park on the morning of November 5 as Ross Mercer, a 58 year-old resident of the mobile home park. A second victim, described as a 59 year-old female, remains hospitalized for stab wounds to her face and body.

After responding to the mobile home park at 3:15 a.m. on November 5, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies located the suspect, Rocky Duarte, 41, in his own home at the mobile home park. He was taken into custody and is being held without bail at the West Valley Detention Center.

Duarte is expected to be arraigned in San Bernardino County Superior Court on Monday (November 10) on charges related murder, burglary, arson, and enhancements for prior felony convictions.
