Two arrested during traffic stop in Twentynine Palms

A sex offender and another man with an active warrant were arrested during a traffic stop in Twentynine Palms.

On Sunday (January 11) at around 11:40 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Twentynine Palms Highway and Bullion Avenue in Twentynine Palms. Deputies identified two people in the vehicle as Richard Sherrill, 49, and Carl Richards, 47.

Deputies say that Sherrill had recently moved to the area from out of state and had not registered. The Sheriff’s Department said that sex offenders must register within five days when moving to California from another state.

Deputies say that Richards had an outstanding warrant in Orange County for possession of controlled substances and stolen property.

Richard Sherrill was arrested on suspicion of failing to register as a convicted sex offender and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $30,000 bail.

Carl Richards was arrested on his outstanding warrant and has since been released on bail.
