Twentynine Palms Water District meetings recap

The first meeting started at 3:45pm and focused on the Twentynine Palms Water District Financing corporation’s election of officers. Director Woods made a motion to retain Director Coghill as President and Director Bowden seconded the motion. Bowden then went on to make a motion to retain Director Leazer as Vice-president, which Director Woods seconded. Both officers were approved 5 to 0 by the Board. Matt Shragge will remain Chief Financial Officer. This meeting adjourned at 3:50 p.m.
The Twentynine Palms Water District’s regular meeting began promptly at 4:00 pm. A discussion ensued to decide whether a California Environmental Quality Act process will be necessary for the redundant treated water reservoir and booster pump station project, which is located at the fluoride removal plant on Amboy road at Utah trail. As the project causes no issues related to the CEQA, the Birdseye Planning Group will complete the class 1 and class 3 Notice of Exemption, which will be filed with the San Bernardino County Clerk and State clearinghouse.
In April and May 2025 an engineer from the State’s Division of Drinking Water (DDW) conducted a survey, which is mandated to take place every five years by the federal safe drinking water act. Every reservoir was found to be well maintained and the Twentynine Palms Water District was deemed to be in compliance
The maintenance report revealed that during recent flooding rains, some water meters were buried under six feet of mud. With the new Geographic Information system (GIS) presenting all types of geographic or location based data, buried meters were found with relative ease by the excavating crews.
The Board meeting calendar was adjusted for November and December so as to avoid scheduling conflicts with the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
