TWENTYNINE PALMS WATER DISTRICT CALLS SPECIAL MEETING SATURDAY

In a surprise move that no one expected, Twentynine Palms Water District Board President Sam Moore and Director Carol Giannini voted against approving the two-party agreement between the City of Twentynine Palms and the water district at a regular meeting Wednesday night. Director Chancy Chambers was absent, making it a 2-2 vote. The agreement sets forth the terms and conditions for the city taking over about $1.5 million of the fire department’s unfunded pension liabilities. Water District General Manager Ray Kolisz said the tie vote means that no action was taken on the issue, and the agreement was tabled to a future meeting. A special meeting has been called for 9 a.m. Saturday, in which the entire board will be present to vote on the two-party agreement. The meeting will be held in chamber offices at the water district, 72401 Hatch Road in Twentynine Palms.
