On Tuesday (July 14) at around 3:30 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a mini-van with an obstructed license plate near the intersection of Baseline Road and Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms. Deputies say the driver, identified as Nathan Brown, 41, fled from deputies. They say he drove south recklessly, driving through opposing lanes of traffic and ignoring stop signs.

Deputies say that Brown abandoned the mini van and fled on foot near the north end of Joshua Tree National Park near the intersection of Sherman Hoyt and Wellock Road. They were eventually able to take him into custody. Brown told deputies that he had been injured during the pursuit, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment. County records indicate the van had been identified as stolen. Brown was found to be in violation of post-release community supervision.

Nathan Brown was arrested on suspicion of reckless evasion, possession of stolen property, and violating parole. He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center without bail.
