Landers Homestead Valley Park receives $2500 donation from County
San Bernardino County Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe mentioned a forthcoming $2,500 County donation to the Homestead Valley Park during her remarks to the meeting. This is earmarked for the 30th Anniversary fireworks spectacular upcoming on September 5, overseen by the Homestead Valley Park association of which Chris Gubler is president. Local businesses are being asked to donate generously to this special anniversary event. Another Park clean-up is scheduled for July 25.
Gardener Kyle Layton informed the meeting of his plan for the local organic co-op and agricultural center to create a community garden at Homestead Valley Park, which has a well. While this plan is in the early stages, the Landers Homestead Valley Association Board of Directors has voted to write a letter of support.
Sergeant David King introduced himself to the meeting. He is new to the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s department. He expressed understanding for those living in unincorporated areas as he also lives remotely. He mentioned that the vacancy for County Detective has been filled by Detective Ziemer.
County fire prevention District Battalion Chief Donnie Viloria reported 91 heat-related medical calls. There is a burn suspension in all of San Bernardino County.
Belfield Hall will function as an unofficial cooling center for the Landers Homestead Valley and surrounding areas, when temperatures hit 105degrees and higher, While there is only evaporative cooling available, cool, moist air and powerful fans will keep the building comfortable and prevent neighbors from becoming overheated. Of course, if the humidity goes above 49% all bets are off as swamp coolers don’t work when it’s humid.
Chair Yoga continues on Tuesdays and Fridays at noon. All ages welcome. USDA Food Distribution is on Monday July 20 from 8:30 to 10:30 at Belfield Hall.
