A man on probation for domestic assault was arrested for investigation into stabbing a woman with a screwdriver in Twentynine Palms.
Deputies responded to a report that a woman had attacked at around 4:50 a.m. early Monday morning (July 22). The woman had returned to a room at the Fairfield Inn & Suites on Encelia Ave, but told deputies that she had been stabbed with a screwdriver and bitten by a man at a different, unidentified location.
Deputies arrived at the hotel to find the woman suffering from stab wounds in her hand and thigh, and say she was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center for treatment.
The victim positively identified the suspect in the stabbing as Leroy Martin, 65, and deputies contacted him at around 5:30 a.m. in the 6000 block of Roberts Ave in Twentynine Palms. Martin is currently on probation after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault relating to an incident in May 2022, and is currently facing an misdemeanor charge related to domestic assault from April 2023.
Leroy Martin was arrested for investigation into assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the West Valley Detention Center on $40,000 bail. He is facing two felony charges for assault with deadly weapon not firearm and inflicting corporal injury on spouse with enhancements for using a deadly weapon, prior felony convictions.
