Joshua Tree Art Walk: feral gardens, book release party, live music, visiting artists and more

The second Saturday Joshua Tree Art Walk is tonight and participating Art Galleries will be feature local and regional art, live music, and refreshments.
Listen to Gabriel Hart’s story and interview here:
La Matadora Gallery presents the Feral Garden group show curated by local artist Wendy Lee Gadsuk, where she’s picked three Southern California artists and three Tucson, AZ-based artists to breathe new possibilities onto the gallery’s walls.
Hey There Projects debuts a new show called “Stay Awhile,” featuring desert inspired paintings by Heather Sundquist and Michael Wayne Hall.
Coyote Little Gallery presents Concussion 2: Analog Boogaloo featuring San Diego artist Brady Millmott and local favorite Zara Kand. Both take a surrealist approach to their mind-altering paintings while differing in distinct styles. Millmott takes a more pop-psychedelic route, combining animals in extreme elements that glisten with lush symbolism, while Kand’s work is more dreamy, dark, and psychological.
The opening will have live music by John Meeks and specialty drinks by Cactus Flower. Reception from 5:00-9:00 p.m.
Beyond an accomplished painter, Zara Kand also writes for art magazines Hi-Fructose and ArtNowLA, and is also the essayist of the new Glimpses of the Joshua Tree Dream, Volume 2: Women of the Mojave, a photography and essay book highlighting sixteen women who have built creative lives in the high desert. The book’s creator, Lisa Schyck, who also wrote the foreword and afterword, will be hosting the book’s release party on Saturday at Juniper Arts Gallery from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with book signing, gallery viewing, and live music by Micha Schellhaas.
On the subject of the book Glimpses of the Joshua Tree Dream Volume 2, Jef Harmatz spoke with Shahasp Valentine, about the chapter she is featured in and where you can snag a copy:
“Glimpses of the Joshua Tree Dream, Volume 2: Women of the Mojave” is a book all about the creative women who have moved to this area. There are so many of us. The book features profiles of and an interview with each woman written by Zara Kand.
“The photography is one of the most interesting things about this book. You get a glimpse, a peek into people’s private worlds. You see how some artists will be really cluttered and other people are super clean and meticulous. And it’s so cool to learn about other people’s processes.
“There is an event celebrating this book happening on Saturday (March 14) at Juniper Gallery in Joshua Tree. It’s the official book launch featuring it’s author Lisa Schyck. It’s going to be catered. There’s going to be music. It’s going to be a big party book launch.I am going to be minding the gift shop, so everybody can stop by and say hi.”
All of these events are happening Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the downtown Joshua Tree area, near the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Park Boulevard.
