Twentynine Palms man arrested for investigation into possession of child pornography

A Twentynine Palms man was arrested for allegedly possessing one of the largest collections of child sexual abuse material in the history of California.
The California Highway Patrol says that the arrest occurred after a year-long investigation by their Computer Crimes Investigation Unit. The suspect is identified as Scott Cherko, a 53 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms.
The CHP says that they conducted a search of Cherko’s home on Valle Vista near Utah Trail in August of 2024, during which they seized multiple digital devices. CHP says that forensic analysis of the hardware revealed more than 300 gigabytes of material relating to the sexual abuse of children.
A warrant was obtained, and Cherko was arrested at his home Thursday (October 23).
Scott Cherko was arrested on suspicion of charges related to child pornography. He has been released on $80,000 bail.
