Twentynine Palms man allegedly evades police during pursuit, arrested the next day

A man alleged to have led deputies on a reckless pursuit through a residential neighborhood was arrested the next day.
On Thursday (August 28) San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies attempted a traffic stop on a Ford F-150 with an Arizona license plate. They said that the truck was traveling at an unsafe speed on Bluegrass Avenue in Twentynine Palms, and identified the driver as Ray Hewitt, a 48 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms.
Deputies say he failed to yield and was observed driving on the wrong side of the roadway in a residential area, creating a significant danger to the public. Hewitt ultimately evaded deputies and escaped arrest during the pursuit.
On Friday (August 29) deputies canvassing a neighborhood in Twentynine Palms located Hewitt’s vehicle near Cielito Drive and Starview Road. Hewitt was located Hewitt and the Sheriff’s Department says he was taken into custody without further incident.
Ray Hewitt was arrested on suspicion of reckless evading, resisting arrest, and an active warrant for domestic violence and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center without bail.
