Twentynine Palms City Council meets tonight (1/13)

The Twentynine Palms City Council will coalesce this evening for the first meeting of 2026, starting with an update from Parks and Recreation about plans for the new year.
A public hearing will be held for a possible ordinance pertaining to “ancillary activities.” After numerous studies and workshops last year, city staff and the Planning Commission found the development code around businesses should be updated for a more streamlined process that allows for ancillary uses, such as live entertainment, and commercial activities.
Council will then discuss council appointments to six different regional organizations, in addition to eight council sub-committees. In that same spirit of representation, council will designate a delegate and alternate delegate for the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Annual Regional Conference and General Assembly in May.
The final agenda item, council will consider taking bids to contain two partial trash enclosures within the Freedom Plaza and to construct a fully enclosed trash structure within the city-owned parking lot on the west side of Tamarisk Avenue. The hope is to cut down on wildlife digging through the receptacles resulting in trash littering the plaza and nearby areas. The project is estimated to cost less than $75K.The meeting takes place on Tuesday, January 13, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road.
It can be livestreamed or viewed on-demand via the city’s website, www.29palms.org.
