Twentynine Palms City Council agenda: Bike lanes, sidewalks, and that 1% sales tax ballot proposal

The Twentynine Palms Planning Commission meet Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

In the consent agenda for tonight’s Twentynine Palms City Council meeting there are a few things worth mentioning if you are into pedestrian-powered travel.

The Hatch Road and Sullivan Road Bike Path Project is up for a one year extension. If you aren’t familiar with the project, it is a planned 2.1 mile section of paved shoulders which will provide Class II bike lanes and a pedestrian walking area. The City awarded HRGreen with the design contract for the project in January of 2025 for the amount of $518,930 – that contract is set to expire on June 30th and is expected to be extended in the consent agenda.

Desert Ace Hardware made some improvements around their shop on Adobe Road, and they are expected to enter into a reimbursement agreement with the City for the installation of sidewalks, curbs, gutters and other improvements.

In Public Hearings there will budget revision discussions for special revenue and capital project funds, along with a report on the possible 1% sales tax increase ballot measure for the November 3rd General election. The Town will hear an update on community engagement and public opinion research.

There will also be a presentation on some changes to the Brown Act – which is the law that governs municipal meetings and equitable access to them. We’ll have a follow-up on those changes for Twentynine Palms in the recap on Wednesday.

All that, plus future agenda item discussion and your public comments. Anyone from the public can speak to the City Council for 3 minutes.

The Twentynine Palms City Council meets at 6:00 p.m. tonight at Twentynine Palms City Hall.
